MORE H&M WINNERS::okay, so i was so impressed with the last post (see below) felt like throwing these kids up there too. H&M never asks us to do this stuff (they are too cool!) it’s out of total love of their clothes and brand that i wanted to share. This family won the “Family Dance Off” In the Clackamas Mall (Outside of Portland) and this is what they came back with - H&M Head to toe.
H&M MAKEOVER WINNERS::BLD at the Pioneer Place Mall (Portland) was off the hook, and the biggest buzz on the dance floor (always) was the H&M Family Makeover Dance Contest - where the winners get a personal shopper from H&M escorting them through the store and helping them find a “new look”. This Mother Daughter team needed very little help but still SHINED brightly after winning the contest and coming back to the dance floor with their new duds.
SAY HEY CHARLIE:::New tour, new kid, while Samson is home and back to school (wishing he was still on the road), middle brother Charlie takes the poll position to join me, the Disco Daddy, on a short trip to the Pacific Northwest. His smile lit up the whole airport and it’s still on his face now as we speak.

TOSHI’S GOT TALENT::We’ve been on tour for well over a week now and Toshi has taken his dancing to the next (next) next (next) level. Seriously - i shot this on my iphone Sunday at the Beauty Bar in Chicago while we were warming up for the show. Asked him how he learned, if he watched old Michael Jackson videos and studied them or something and he just smiled and shrugged his shoulders: “They just go, it’s like they do it themselves” he said honestly eyeing his feet.
LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED MY LIFE:::Had to take a pause for the cause in these disco diaries to acknowledge the fact that while there may be two young boys on this tour BLD ‘aint is healthy for parents too! And when we take over the dance floor we are locked in loaded (and blessed) to have the talents of DJ Sick Sentz. (AKA Cliff Callender) absolutely destroying it every day and night. Here’s “Uncle Cliffy” (to the boys) pictured in the booth @ the Beauty Bar Chicago.
POLITICAL PROTESTERS - WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED::Sam & Toshi both got full cooperation from their schools in letting them take part in this journey - “just try and make it educational” they said “stop at famous landmarks if you can”. And it wasn’t like we were trying to be politically active, but when the limo (thanx Chris!) dropped us off at the state capitol in Madison, well…..when in Rome! This group was protesting Unions being cut, and we also took part in a “Free Tibet” rally as well as a Occupy Madison type of gathering.
DAY OFF - MADISON::Madison Wisconsin, who knew? We do…now. Quaint state capital, nestled in between two lakes, with a fine academic institution (go Badgers!) occupying the heart and soul of most. Us? totally lucked out with our hotel - the Sleep Inn (indy owned and operated) that had a pool with real basketball courts, a game room, and a limo, that drove us around town to check out the sites. But best of all was our cummfy, cummfy hotel room where we ordered inn, watched movies and chilaxed.
SUPER TOSHI::The above video clip is 9 year old MC Toshi (pronounced TOE-SHE) leading the freeze dance in Florence Kentucky. In only his second show he clearly took control and owned the dance floor. Yes he’s my god-son, but really, this kid is beyond special - and you can tell by how he handles himself in public - but spend a week with him on a van, travelling the country and you will be in awe. (go super toshi!)
DJ SAMSON ON THE ONES AND TWOS:::So proud of my Sammy, not only for volunteering to be our back-up DJ during this tour, but for working hard, practicing, and sticking with it (trust me - not easy to be the DJ - especially at 9 years old). Got all emotional when i looked up from the dance floor (where I was leading the crowd as the MC) to see Sam up there on stage, rock-rock-rocking it….and having a great time too. This one’s for you Sammy!
